Inter-University Furniture Contest

Divine Details is a furniture design contest aiming at bridging the gap between the academic life of the students & the professional one through designing & executing a full scale piece of furniture.



Participants Requirements

This contest is open to students registered in Universities design faculties operating in Lebanon. Students should be in their last year of study or have obtained their diploma less than one year ago.

  • Academic background: University students in architecture, interior design & furniture design
  • Academic year: Design students in their final year (2010 - 2011) prior to graduation or one year post graduation (2009 - 2010) can participate.



Rules and regulations

Contestants are requested to design and execute movable home furniture which fits in a maximum area of 2mx2mx2m (2m3).

Choice of material: Any type of material and media can be used

Application method

1. Fill in the online registration form (SEND US AN ONLINE MESSAGE) before December 15th, 2010 Extended deadline (because of projects and exams) Last minute registration accepted!

2. An email will be sent to you as a confirmation of your registration to the competition.

3. A reimbursable $20 fee must be paid as a participation fee before presentation of the drawings and sketches. This amount will be refunded upon presentation on time of the completed piece.

Soft copy (to be sent by email)

Drawings and sketches must be submitted by January 19th, 2011 for approval before execution. All participants have to send the drawings and sketches either in softcopy or hardcopy file with detail requirements as follow:

a) Submit the design in 4 different perspectives views (left side, right side, and front side) in the form of 3D pictures and/or scanned hand sketch.

b) .JPEG format file is required.

c) If more than 3 files, compress them in zip format.

d) Required size of graphics is 1600 x 1200 (pixels).

Hard copy (to be deposited at Farra Design Center in Mkalles)

a) Print out the registration confirmation email sent to you from Farra Design Center and send it along with the color photos in the form of 3D drawing and/or scanned hand sketch.

b)The photos or print materials of applicants will not be returned.

Applicants should wait for approval of their sketches before starting execution.

All applicants must present their pieces by May 9th, 2011.



Awards

Honorary certificates will be distributed to all participants.

Jury voting

What you'll be winning: Total cash prizes of $ 5000 and trophies.

  • 1st winner :  $ 2000
  • 2nd winner : $ 1500
  • 3rd winner :  $ 1000
  • 4th winner :  $ 500

Winning pieces will be exhibited at Farra Design Center for 1 month.

Bonus Prizes: Public voting

Special prize for the most voted Furniture piece (Voters' names will be registered. The same person cannot cast more than one vote)

  • $ 25 for 100 votes
  • $ 50 for 200 votes
  • $ 75 for 300 votes
  • $ 150 for 500 votes
  • $ 400 for 1000 votes

FAQs

If I enter who owns the designs?

Your design is yours, Farra Design is interested in promoting new design and designers, but we do not produce anything ourselves. If we feel that a design is a good fit for a manufacturer we know, we may either direct you to a contact we have or, with your permission, make a contact.

Do I need to send the furniture to enter?

To qualify for the Grand Prize, a physical model, prototype or finished piece is required.

Do I need to be there to set up?

Yes, participants are required to unpack and assemble their furniture as Farra Design Center will not be held responsible for any errors or accidents that might occur during the process.

Are accessories accepted?

Yes, we are accepting accessories
